Anita Fanic |
We all have a story. And for many of us, it involves photography! This month we are pleased to share Anita Fanic's wonderful background to help us get to know her better. She's living her dream and loving every moment. From the beginning... Anita was born in Toronto, Canada and her parents moved her to the Philadelphia area when she was an infant. She lived near Philadelphia until about 6 and a half years ago when she moved to Jacksonville to be close to her grandchildren - and away from the cold weather! Anita’s interest in photography started at around 13 yrs old, a very young age. She enjoyed taking frequent long walks in the woods and loved taking photos of nature - especially close-ups. As an adult, even while raising her family and working long hours, she says she always found the time to take pictures. She told us that photography has helped her get through some tough times by giving her a sense of peace and freedom. Membership in camera clubs have long been a part of her world since her days in Philadelphia, and she says she immediately found and joined the Beaches Photography Club when she moved to Jacksonville in 2017. She also joined and remains active in other local clubs. “These clubs have become my social outlet and I am truly enjoying the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the Beaches Camera Club. Now that I am semi-retired, I have more time to enjoy my passion for photography and explore new techniques and learning from fellow members,” says Anita. She continues, “I also love to travel and explore new places which I intend to do more of in the future. I have found that Florida has a lot more to offer than I had expected - and I am enjoying the activities and outings coordinated by our local clubs." | As many of us already know, Anita’s most recent passion has been exploring ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) photography. She says she was exposed to it when taking a workshop taught by Andre Galante in Philadelphia about twelve years ago. “Immediately - I was hooked!" she explains, "I have always been drawn to abstract photography and art, so this style of photography has just pleasantly overtaken me. It gives me the freedom to create a vision without having to follow ‘the rules’ and I'm enjoying every moment of it.” What is ICM? ICM is created in-camera by moving my camera and lenses in certain directions to create a very abstract and ethereal imagery. She uses very minimum post processing in Photoshop and says “minimal post is fine with me as I am not a Photoshop guru nor a technical person. When I first moved here, not many people had heard of it (ICM) and I wasn't sure if it would be accepted well by the camera clubs. But it has since been greatly appreciated and I have done several workshops for our local clubs. I love sharing my knowledge and techniques and find enjoyment in seeing the creativity of others.” Anita says her dream has long been to have her photography displayed in an art gallery. In October of 2022, she was accepted into the Art Box 137 in St. Augustine where you can view her ICM Photography. Dreams do come true!! What’s in Anita's camera bag right now? Anita says, “I have always used Nikon equipment and started out with Nikon film cameras. I didn't purchase my first DSLR (Nikon D300) until 2009, just before a wonderful trip to Italy. That was certainly a wise decision! I am now using a Nikon D7200 and D7500. My lenses range from macro, wide angle, long and a Lensbaby Velvet 56. When I do my ICM photography , it is always handheld and I mostly use my 17mm -55m or my 55mm-300mm. I also use a variable ND filter in bright light.“ Anita concluded, “Happy Shooting, everyone!” Check out some of her wonderful images below... |
